NFT Lifecycle Management

NFT Marketplace Interaction

Staking NFTs issued through StarGate are fully compatible with VeChain-based marketplaces. Users have the ability to list and manage these NFTs under specific conditions depending on their lock and maturity status.

Listing and Selling NFTs

  • Unlocked NFTs: These NFTs are eligible to be listed and sold at any time. While listed, they continue generating base rewards for the current holder, up until the moment of purchase.

  • Locked NFTs: NFTs that are actively delegated (i.e., locked) can be listed, but they are not purchasable on the marketplace. This restriction ensures delegation integrity and prevents mid-cycle transfer of active staking rights.

  • To make a locked NFT sellable, the user must exit delegation and wait until the current 7-day cycle ends, after which the NFT transitions to an unlocked state and becomes transferable or sellable.

Metadata and Visibility

All NFTs include dynamic metadata, which reflects their current status:

  • Level of the NFT

  • Lock status (locked or unlocked)

Inheriting Staked VET

When a buyer acquires a staking NFT, they automatically inherit the staked VET tied to that NFT. Therefore, whoever owns the NFT, owns the collateral VET staked. However:

  • Rewards do not begin automatically for the new holder.

  • The buyer must manually lock the NFT to begin accumulating rewards.

  • No maturity period applies, after locking the inherited NFT, user starts generating rewards.

Transferring NFTs

NFTs can be transferred directly between wallets, subject to their lock status:

  • Unlocked NFTs can be transferred freely at any time.

  • Locked NFTs with auto-renew enabled require users to manually exit delegation and wait until the current 7-day cycle completes. Only then does the NFT unlock and become transferable.

  • Locked NFTs without auto-renew will unlock automatically at the end of the cycle, without user action. Once unlocked, the NFT becomes eligible for transfer.

Transferring an NFT does not automatically delegate it for the new holder. Like with sales, the new owner must explicitly lock the NFT again to initiate a new staking cycle.

Managing Multiple NFTs

Users may hold multiple staking NFTs within the same wallet. Each NFT operates as an independent staking entity, with its own:

  • Maturity period

  • Lock and unlock status

  • Delegation cycle and auto-renew setting

  • Reward accumulation and claim window

To simplify management, the StarGate interface provides users with a dashboard displaying the status of each NFT, including current delegation, maturity countdowns, and reward summaries.
